How Can “Free Drugs” Be Possible? The United States Federal Government provides tax breaks and other incentives to encourage pharmaceutical sponsors that provide prescription drugs for free or low cost.

With each medication the income criteria varies from below the poverty level up to $39,200 for individuals, $52,800 for couples, and as high as $80,000 for a family of four. Once a patient is approved, brand-name free medicines arrive in two to three weeks, dispensed either directly to the patient, or a coupon is given to take to a local pharmacy or through the doctor’s office.  These programs can provide a lifetime supply of free medication.

Free Medicine brings together America’s pharmaceutical companies, doctors, other health care providers, hospitals, social services offices, government social service offices, patient advocacy organizations, and community groups to help qualifying patients get the medicines they cannot afford through public or private programs that’s right for them. It is our mission to increase awareness and boost enrollment of those who don’t know they qualify. The results of our efforts have proven successful.

Free Medicine will continue its ongoing commitment to provide medication assistance to those in need, including certain Medicare beneficiaries eligible for the Part D prescription drug plan benefit. Free Medicine helps patient’s access Rx programs providing free and low cost medicine to patients who qualify in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Why do Pharmaceutical Companies Help Patients Get Their Medicines for FREE?

As advocates for patients seeking prescription medicine assistance, Free Medicine is committed to getting the word out and helping patients apply for free medicine. A volunteer organization that puts people in touch with sponsors willing to supply free medication.

As cost of prescription medications continues to increase, often making them unaffordable for people without insurance, the drug manufacturers themselves are helping get their products to the people who need them practically free of charge.

Pharmaceutical sponsors who have programs do so for various reasons. Some believe that they have a corporate social obligation to help those who can't afford their products. Others believe it's a good marketing tool. One free medicine sponsor has stated, "many people who can't afford their medicines now go on to obtain some type of prescription coverage. And when they get this coverage, the pharmaceutical companies want the patient to remain on their products."

possible in part by the Federal Government, which provides tax rebates to drug companies in the USA who provide free medications through these programs. The New York Times says, "for patients, these plans can be life-savers".
